Dr. Maria Carmela Amodio
Dr. Maria Carmela Amodio was born in Cosenza on December 30, 1984. She earned her master’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rome, followed by specialization in Legal Medicine and Forensic Pathology at the University “Tor Vergata” in Rome, where she also obtained a Ph.D. in Forensic Sciences.
Since 2014, she has been a technical consultant and party-appointed expert for various courts in Italy. Dr. Amodio has also served in several Italian government roles, including as a member of disability assessment commissions and as the medical for the Provincial Command of Firefighters of Sondrio.
In 2018, Dr. Amodio joined the Italian Air Force as a medical officer, holding leadership roles such as head of the Environmental and Prophylaxis Office and head of the Medical Wings Section, conducting "fit to fly" evaluations for flight personnel. She remained in the Air Force until 2022, when she took a leave of absence.
Dr. Amodio is a seasoned educator, teaching forensic pathology and military forensic medicine, with a focus on aerospace medicine and flight accident investigations (aeronautical thanatology, human factors, and ergonomics). She has lectured at prestigious institutions including the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Italian Air Force Academy.
In 2022, she became a Research Fellow at the University of Padua, analyzing health and environmental risks in aerospace propulsion systems, focusing on protective measures and evaluating occupational diseases linked to chemical exposure.
Since January 2024, she has been on the faculty of the Department of Forensic Sciences, teaching Forensic Pathology.
