Forensic sciences students are encouraged to participate in one or more internships during their studies. The Washington, D.C., region offers an unparalleled collection of internship opportunities, most of which are paid positions. Internships provide practical work experience and an opportunity to interact with field professionals.

How to Get an Internship

Students may obtain internships by reaching out to agencies, laboratories or companies directly. Arrangements are made without Forensic Sciences Department involvement; however, the university offers some services to help place students in internships through the Center for Career Services. Forensic Sciences faculty can also provide internship recommendations for students by addressing their recent research or academic achievement to date.

Bode Fellowship Program

Mike Cariola, MFS ’99, established an exclusive fellowship for GW forensic science students at his company, The Bode Technology Group Inc., in Lorton, Virginia. Bode is one of the world's largest and most well-known private forensic DNA laboratories. The Bode Fellowship program gives selected students a work opportunity while seeking their degree.
